The University of Miami will be hosting a workshop designed to help people get the most from their garden and be kind to the environment at the same time.
The event will be facilitated by UF Master Gardeners, who will explain and demonstrate how to turn kitchen scraps, yard waste, and other organic materials into compost that can enrich the soil and grow bigger and more vibrant plants. Along with the instruction, those who participate will receive a free voucher that they can use to get a compost bin.
Composting is Easy is open to all, but in order to be given the voucher, the recipient must reside in the Miami-Dade community. Each household is eligible to receive just one. The bins can be obtained from Solid Waste, and the address for this will be provided during the workshop. Booklet printing can be used to create instructional materials for each participant in an event such as this to take home with them.
The class will be held at the West End Regional Library, which can be found at 10201 Hammocks Boulevard in Miami on November 12. It will run from 10:30 am to 11:30 am. There is no charge to attend, and those who are interested in signing up, or just want to find out more, can do so by visiting the workshop’s Eventbrite listing.
