Samaritan award goes to Florida mother

A Police Samaritan Award (PSA) was received by Megan Andrews recently. These are given out to people who have gone out of their way to help in times of need.

Andrews was given the accolade in Clearwater, and is the sort of award for which poster printing from Largo can be used to promote and spread awareness.

The local woman got the award because she looked after a pair of toddlers during the course of a traffic-related incident. She showed presence of mind to ask a police officer if they needed assistance.

Clearwater Police were extremely grateful for the intervention as it made their job much less difficult than it would have been otherwise. Dan Slaughter, a local police chief, explained the value of the good deed of Andrews, saying:

“Megan could have just driven on by the scene like most others would do. But she saw a need and chose to get involved and help. She epitomizes what the Samaritan Award is all about - people who go above and beyond to help others.”

Andrews has two children of her own. She took the time to entertain the toddlers until a grandparent was able to pick them up, and made sure the toddlers had sufficient drinks and snacks while they were waiting. She even used toys to stop the children from becoming bored.

The awards ceremony was held at 645 Pierce Street.
