The Brooker Creek Preserve Environmental Education Center and Pinellas County are partnering with the city of Largo to host the kick-off for the Parks for Pollinators BioBlitz later this month.
This will be at the Largo Central Park Nature Preserve and will be led by The Scotts Miracle-Gro Foundation and the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA). The goal of this initiative is to encourage communities to contribute scientific data that supports pollinator health, and to raise awareness about the important role of pollinators.
Attendees at the kick-off will participate in a community service survey. They will photograph animals, insects, and plants at the preserve and upload their pictures to the iNaturalist app. Their contributions will become part of a national database that keeps track of the health of pollinators.
Guidance for this process will be provided by educators from the Largo Parks Department and Brooker Creek Preserve. Attendees can continue to take more photographs throughout the month at any park in Pinellas County. Those who cannot attend the event can participate by taking pictures of wildlife in the county and uploading them to the app throughout the month.
Local Print shops can help spread the word about such initiatives and their help towards conservation efforts with Flyers, Posters, and other printed materials.
This event will be from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm this Saturday, September 13.
