New operations building to rise in Largo

A new operations building for the City of Largo Environmental Services is currently under construction.

The goal of this new facility will be to provide greater attention to the physical infrastructure of the city and to support the Largo Strategic Plan that focuses on ensuring the safety and health of the public. Environmental Services collects, treats, and recycles the sewer water from the city.

The building will handle wastewater treatment operations. Spanning 13,187 square feet and costing just over $8m to construct, it will be the first building in the city that will be able to withstand hurricane winds, and will be 23.5 feet above sea level so that it will be protected from high waves and floods. The building will also have an electric vehicle charging station, a roof for the construction of solar panels, new offices, and a state-of-the-art lab.

Flyer printing is often used to inform residents of such new facilities and their benefits for the community.

McKim and Creed developed the design and engineering plans and specifications for the new building. Biltmore Construction Company, a local business, will be constructing the building. So that sustainability and resiliency could be ensured in the structure, the design and construction teams worked closely with Largo Environmental Services.

The facility is scheduled to open in a year and a half.
