New affordable housing complex opens in Largo

A new workforce housing development with 92 units recently opened in Largo.

Known as the Palms of Pinellas, the apartment community has units with one to three bedrooms that are available to those at various levels of income. There are more affordable options where the units are only for those who earn less than 50% of the median in the area. The cap for the units is 150% of median income.

Palms of Pinellas cost $13.3m to build. It was the result of a partnership among the Pinellas County government, the Housing Finance Authority of Pinellas County, the Pinellas County Housing Authority, Valley National Bank, and Norstar Development USA. Pinellas County contributed $938,000 to acquire the land. It used a 1% sales tax and an additional $1.5 million from local and federal housing funds to help pay for the project.

Unique features of the Palms of Pinellas included nine-foot ceilings, designer cabinets and brushed nickel appointments, two-tone interior finishes, and faux word flooring. Amenities include a clubhouse, business center, and lounge, as well as a pool and fitness center.

Brochure printing can be used to provide more details about features and amenities of such apartment developments.

Over the past decade through various funding sources, Pinellas County has been able to set aside over $37m for the construction of more than 2,000 affordable housing units.
