An innovative new treatment will be offered by the Largo Medical Center.
This treatment removes coronary plaque that is severely calcified. The technology is new and treats the build-up of calcium. It adapts the technology of lithotripsy, which is an approach that has been used for many years to break up kidney stones in a safe manner.
Sonic pressure waves, or shockwaves, are used to go through soft arterial tissue and disrupt the calcified plaque to create very small fractures in the arterial walls. Once these cracks in the calcium have been created, the artery is then expanded at low pressure and a stent is safely implanted in the artery which improves the flow of blood. The result is minimal trauma to normal arterial tissue.
Brochure printing is often handled by local Print shops to provide patients with more details about such new procedures.
Interventional Cardiologist and the first to perform this treatment at Largo Medical Center, Merrill A. Krolick, DO, said that those involved in cardiology at the Center are committed to providing patients with the latest innovations in cardiovascular surgery to treat heart disease. Dr. Krolick expressed excitement about this new chapter in treating heart disease after having used the same technology in other areas for the past three decades and one that improves the safety and greatly benefits those in the community of Largo.
