Funds awarded to group in Largo for swimming lessons

The Greater Ridgecrest YMCA in Largo will be hosting its Splash of Joy lifeguard training and water safety program for underserved communities this summer.

This program is made possible by a donation of $54,000 from Poolcorp, which is making these funds available for the second consecutive year and is a leading wholesale distributor of parts, equipment, and supplies for swimming pools and related outdoor living products.

Every year, the YMCA provides swimming lessons to 100 children throughout Hernando, Pasco, and Pinellas counties. Scholarships for lifeguard training and 100 Safety Around Water lessons for deserving children in these communities will be made possible by the funding.

Notice of such available scholarships is often made known throughout a community with poster printing.

Vice president and chief legal officer of Poolcorp, Jennifer Neil, said the company is committed to making a difference in the communities which are served by the YMCA and the company. Neil added that learning to swim boosts the confidence of children and sets them on a path for a happier and better future.

Vice president of strategic marketing of Poolcorp, Kendall Large, said that as the company is a leader in the industry of swimming pools, it is important that all people should know how to swim. Large added that the company is solidly committed to reaching children who do not have this opportunity.
