A 5K run will take place in Lakeland this May.
The event honors the members of the Lakeland Police Department who have lost their lives in service, and offers support to their families in need. Now in its sixth year, the event is called the Fallen Heroes Memorial 5K.
Medals will be awarded to individual runners based on the best times for their age category. There will also be medals given to the highest performers from the military, whether currently enlisted or already retired. Participants may enter the race either virtually or in-person.
Those who would like to take part may sign up online. Registration packets become available for pickup two days before race day at the Lakeland Police Department. This pickup process is a drive-thru arrangement, which only requires that the participants provide their name to the volunteer personnel for registration. Otherwise, packets will be available on race day.
The cost for signup will be $35 for both virtual and in-person participants, although this will increase after May 10. Poster printing can help organizers to thank sponsors for events such as this one.
The race will take place on May 21 along the Three Parks Trail. The start point will be 3620 Cleveland Heights Boulevard, Lakeland, Florida 33803. It goes from 7:00 am to 10:00 am.
