Lakeland pulls ahead in tournament

Part of the 2017 boys’ basketball Nature Coast Christmas Tournament was on December 28 where the Lakeland Dreadnaughts defeated the Jacksonville Fletcher Senators.

The final score was 73-66 with eight three-point shots, and the first quarter included half of them.

The MVP of the game turned out to be Luke Anderson, who scored 22 points and had 18 rebounds. Nearly two thirds of the points he scored were made in the second half. Sam Gray came in a close second with 20 and Chrishawn Butler scored 13.

In the second quarter, the Dreadnaughts took the lead with a score of 23-21. They led by ten points at the halfway stage (39-29). At its largest, the lead would ascend to 19 points, reaching a score of 64-45, before the Senators started catching up. However, it was not enough to salvage a result.

According to Dwayne Johnson, coach for the Lakeland team, defense was on point during the game, but he would like to see the team work on rebounds because those two factors are the most important to the team. On the Senators' side, Jeremiah Payton scored the most points at 25, with Cameron Barnett scoring 22 for second place.
