Lakeland honors its high-achieving women

The 2022 ATHENA Awards will recognize several successful women leaders and women-run businesses next month.

ATHENA International was founded by Martha Mayhood Mertz in 1982 to encourage women to reach their full potential by being true to themselves, constantly learning, working with others, standing up for what is right, and celebrating their wins. The name ATHENA comes from the Greek goddess of wisdom, prudent warfare, useful arts, and fertility.

This year’s ceremony will honor the nominees and recipients of the ATHENA Organizational, Young Professional, and Leadership Awards. Commercial pilot, Richele Floyd, will be the guest speaker at the event. Floyd is the leader of an all-female team of pilots called the Lady Aces. They were recently a part of 50 teams that flew 2,500 miles in a race across America.

Those interested in attending the ATHENA Awards must register online. Members of the Lakeland Chamber of Commerce can log in to view ticket prices. Tickets for non-members start at $55.

The awards ceremony will be on Thursday, September 8, from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm. Dinner will be served at 6:45 pm. It will be held at the Polk Theatre at 121 Florida Avenue South in Lakeland, Florida 33801.
