Lakeland festival a bunch of hot air

The Sun 'n Fun Expo Campus in Lakeland will soon be hosting the Up Up and Away Florida Hot Air Balloon Festival.

Attendees can ride in a hot air balloon or watch the multicolored spectacle from the ground. There will also be live music, a beer and mimosa garden, archery tag, live entertainment, art and food vendors, helicopter rides, and skydiving.

Entertainment will include Shania the Aerialist and a live routine by On Pointe Dance Academy. Bands such as Audio Exchange and Rico Monaco Band with Tito Puente Jr. will perform. At sunset, the balloons will fire their burners in a light display.

Admission is $15 for one day and $20 for the weekend. Online sales end February 25. Children age 11 and under get in free.

The expo campus is located at 4175 Medulla Road. There are RV and tent spaces for camping, while parking passes are sold with admission. Parking on-site and Kids’ Zone purchases must be made at the festival and with cash. Tethered balloon rides are $20 per person, paid at the festival, and dependent on the weather. The balloon will go 30 to 40 feet up.
