Flying and driving part of Lakeland winter celebration

Sun 'n Fun in Lakeland will host the Holiday Flying Festival and Car Show next month.

Guests will be able to see multiple aircrafts and cars on display and enjy an airplane competition, live music, and food from vendors.

Sun 'n Fun and National Short Takeoff and Landing will present a STOL tournament as the main spectacle on the first day. Popular in mountain country flying, STOL has been around since World War I. This is the first year of the competition with Sun 'n Fun and more than 100 pilots are set to fly. The winner will receive a monetary award. Live Airshow TV will broadcast the competition live on the internet.

In addition, attendees can attend the General Aviation Town Hall sponsored by the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA). There, they can ask about current aviation news and regulations. Some of the panelists planned are the presidents and CEOs of Sun ‘n Fun, AOPA, and the Experimental Aircraft Association. Panelists may want to bring Business Cards to pass out.

Wild Blue Rodeo and the Aeroshell Aerobatic Team will perform in an airshow that night. There will also be a glowing display by hot air balloons in the evening. The next day, there will be a balloon launch, sky typing, and flybys. Attendees can buy tickets to ride in an airplane.

The Holiday Flying Festival is on December 4 and 5. Sun 'n Fun is located at 4175 Medulla Road.
