Runners enjoy mud and obstacle race

The Mayport Mud Run is only a few weeks away. This is one of Jacksonville’s most popular professionally timed military obstacle and mud races.

More than 25 obstacles, an ice bath, and two mud pits will be strewn over the 5K course. A JR. 1-mile course for kids ages 5 to 13 will feature one mud pit, more than 10 obstacles, and an ice bath.

From now until August 14, adult tickets run $32 and kids’ tickets are $16. After August 14, adult registration goes to $42 and kids’ registration goes to $20.

Swag for each 5K “mudder” includes timing, bib, custom finisher medal, mudder face covering/headband, and a technical fabric race shirt sporting this year’s graphic design. Each JR 1 Mile mudder will receive a custom finisher medal, mudder face covering/headband, and can attend an after-party with music and snacks.

The 5K Race start will begin at 7:00 am with Competitive Wave 1 and at 7:10 am with Competitive Wave 2. Waves for non-competitive runners will begin at 8:10 and waves will be released every 10 minutes unit 10:40 am, with 17 in total. The JR. Heat will begin with the first wave at 11:00 am and will be followed at 11:10 am with the second wave.

The Mayport Mud Run will take place August 21 at Mayport Naval Base Fitness Center, 1391 Bailey Avenue. Other activities for the runners and spectators that have purchased the naval station’s Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) card will be bingo, golf, bowling, and other special events.
