Jacksonville watches boat parade

At the end of November, for one-night, lighted boats decorated for the holidays will be floating down the St. Johns River in Jacksonville's traditional Lighted Boat Parade.

Thousands of spectators will be viewing the parade as it goes along the south and north banks, and it can be seen in downtown Jacksonville along the riverwalks.

Judges will be looking for decoration composition and overall appearance, and winners will be announced in four categories – corporate, sailboat, vessels 30' and over, and vessels under 30'. Prizes usually include trophies, plaques, local business Gift Certificates, and bragging rights.

Any captains and crew interested in participating need to get their registration submissions in by midnight this coming Thursday, November 20. Participation is free. Winning entries in parades like this, especially corporate winners, often have pictures taken and sent to local Print shops for enlargements.

The evening's festivities will end with fireworks, including waterfall displays cascading down from the Acosta and Main Street Bridges.

The 125-foot tri-level luxury yacht Royal Princess will be bringing up the rear in the parade. Guests can stroll around the boat, eat heavy appetizers, be entertained by a local DJ, and view the parade. Advanced tickets are $225.

This year's Jacksonville's Lighted Boat Parade, which has been a Jacksonville tradition for more than 30 years, will take place on Saturday, November 29 beginning at 6:00 pm at Metropolitan Park in Downtown Jacksonville.
