Jacksonville’s Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens will be celebrating its 60th year this year with Affinity Group events and a gala.
To start the new year, Scott Brown, Ph.D. will present a virtual lecture titled “The Cummer Gardens: Natural Beauty and Beautiful Cities in the American Landscape” tomorrow, January 6.
On January 13 from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm, the museum’s Culture & Conversation series will present a virtual lecture given by Gordon Yellowman, the museum’s exhibition curator. Yellowman will focus on the “Imprisoned but Empowered: Cheyenne Warrior Artists at Fort Marion” exhibit now in the museum. Guests may join the Zoom feed for free at the museum’s website.
An Afternoon of Art Lectures series will present “The Works and Life of Vincent Van Gogh: Tribulations and Triumphs” at the Story & Song Bookstore Bistro, 1430 Park Avenue, Fernandina Beach. The first part, “In Search of Identity and Purpose,” will be held from 2:00 pm until 3:30 pm on January 18, and “Flourishing and Decline in Arles” will be discussed on February 15 as the second part. Paintings by celebrated artists like Van Gogh are often chosen by Stationery printers for notecards and thank-you cards.
A Cummer Beaches Gala is planned for February 6 from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm at TPC Sawgrass Country Club, 10034 Golf Club Drive, Ponte Vedra Beach. The event will pay homage to Ninah Cummer, the founder of the museum and once owner of the home on the site where the museum now stands.
