Kayak anglers go to Xtreme

Jacksonville kayakers who enjoy both fishing and a challenge will be flocking to the 9th Annual Inshore Xtreme Challenge in early April.

This fishing tournament will use a Catch, Photo, Release format for flounder, trout, and redfish. However, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) regulations and rules for slot and keep limits will be followed. Each participant may record up to five 15”-to-19” trout, two 18”-by-27” redfish, and five 14” minimum flounder.

The top five fishermen will be awarded $1,000, $500, $300, and $100 prize packs for total combined length of all fish, while a Lady Angler will receive a $300 prize pack. All winners will also receive IXC Metalfish trophies.

In the $5 raffle, items and packages worth from $10 to $500 will be awarded. A new $1,250 Kaku Voodoo kayak will go to the winner of the $20-per-ticket raffle. At the Captains Meeting, registered anglers may also enter the 50/50 Spot Challenge, where the aim is to catch the redfish with the most spots. Tickets for this challenge will cost $10 each and the winner takes home half the pot.

All online registrants will receive Captain’s Bags, laden with fishing tackle and gear, shirts sporting the current year’s graphic design, and dinner for each night.

This year’s Inshore Xtreme Challenge will take place April 1 from 6:00 am to 8:00 pm at Holly Oaks Event Hall, 11210 McCormick Road.
