Many Jacksonville runners will begin their 4th of July festivities by running the family-friendly Celebration 5k.
Swag will include moisture-wicking shirts sporting this year’s graphic design for all runners, 5k finisher custom-designed medals, and fun run medals.
Proceeds from the event will benefit Duval County track and cross-country programs and the scholarship program for the summer camp.
Registration for the 5k will be $40 on race day. One-mile fun run tickets will be $10.
The race will begin with only one wave. Runners are to find pace flags along the start line, and should line up behind the one that coincides with their personal pace time.
The top three female and male finishers will receive $200 for first, $100 for second, and $50 for third place finishers. First master’s female and male overall finishers will receive $50, and plaques will go to female and male winners in each of the 16 age categories.
A watermelon festival will await racers at the finish line. Everyone can eat watermelon, bananas, and electrolyte popsicles, and whole watermelons will go to the top overall and three top finishers in 16 age-group winners. A watermelon eating contest will take place before the awards ceremony, with a gift certificate from 1st Place Sports going to the winner.
Celebration 5k will begin at 1st Place Sports, 3931 Baymeadows Road at 7:30 am and end on San Jose Park Drive behind 1st place Sports. The fun run will begin at 8:30 am.
