Jacksonville runs last race of the year

Many here in Jacksonville will be participating in the Bank of America New Year's Eve 5k Run coming on New Year's Eve.

Registration is $35 up until December 25, then $40 from then until December 30, and $50 on race day. The race will be an out-and-back to downtown Jacksonville and the start and finish line will be in front of the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena on A. Philip Randolph Boulevard.

Swag includes official racing shirts, and all finishers will get custom designed medals. Large running events like this often use local Print shops for banner printing and to emboss swag with the event's logo.

Awards will go to the top three male and female overall finishers, as well as Masters and in 15 age categories.

Proceeds from the run will go to Gator Bowl Charities, a non-profit organization will a mission to aid in the educational, leadership, and service development of youth from the First Coast region through sports experiences.

Individual runners may also opt to donate $10 for Run 4 a Child, an initiative that supports healthcare and educational issues affecting children worldwide, when they register.

Race packets will be available at the 1st Place Sports San Marco and Baymeadows stores from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm on December 28 and December 30, and at the event at the starting area.

The New Year's Eve 5k Run will take place beginning at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, December 31.
