The Florida Chapter of the American Planning Association is holding its 2021 North Florida Safe Street Summit in mid-April.
The theme this year will be “Connecting our Communities from the Inside Out.” The keynote speaker will be founder of 8 80 Cities, a non-profit with the mission of enhancing public spaces and mobility, Gil Penalosa.
Rutgers University researcher, Charles Brown and a panel of local city council members, the Atlantic Beach Mayor, and the Nassau County Florida Department of Health director, will address equity considerations when creating safe streets.
Jake Gordon, Downtown Vision CEO, will moderate a discussion of progress in downtown Jacksonville with an Our Core to Coast panel. The panel will consist of Lori Boyer (CEO of Downtown Investment Authority), Kay Ehas (CEO of Groundwork Jacksonville), and Joyce Morgan (Jacksonville City Council member).
A Pre-summit Walkshop from 9:00 am until 11:00 am will be a tour of part of the Cathedral District, which houses five historic churches and is presently going through redevelopment.
Occasionally, interested parties have some flyer printing done to get information about summits like this out to the public.
The $45 registration fee will include lunch. The pre-summit walkshop will cost $5 for summit attendees and $10 for those that opt out of the summit.
The North Florida Safe Streets Summit is scheduled for Wednesday, April 21 from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm at the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront, 225 East Coastline Drive.
