Jacksonville fishing event steps up a level

The Greater Jacksonville Kingfish Tournament, coming in mid-July, offers more than just the general tournament and the Champions Bash.

One other popular event will be the Redfish Tournament. Registration will be $50 per angler.

Awards will be given in three categories: Boat Weight, Kayak Weight, and Boat and Kayak Spots. Boat Weight and Boat and Kayak Spots classes will have $1,500 first place, $1,000 second place, and $500 third place prizes. They will also have fourth place $300 and fifth place $200 awards. First place for the Kayak Weight class will be a pedal kayak. Second place will be $500, and third place $250. Fourth and fifth places will be awarded $200 and $100 respectively.

Fishing will start at first light at Sisters Creek at Jim King Park and Boat Ramp on Saturday, July 18. The weigh-in station will close at 3:00 pm.

Although the Dockside part of the Jr. Angler Tournament has been cancelled, the offshore part will take place Tuesday, July 14. First place winner will receive a 25 HP Yamaha outboard motor and a 14-foot Micro Skiff Boat and trailer.

Thrilled winners of prizes this big often have pictures taken with their winning catches and their prizes. These photos might then go to nearby Print shops to be made into duplicates for family and friends.

The Jr. Angler Awards Ceremony will be at 4:00 pm on Saturday, July 18.
