Holiday Boat Parade returns to Jacksonville

One of Jacksonville's holiday traditions, the Jacksonville Light Boat Parade will be returning in late November.

For over 40 years, Jacksonville has enjoyed a line of brightly lit vessels floating down the St. Johns River. Spectators can view the parade along the Southbank and North Riverwalks. Some good viewing places will be Hemming Park, and Friendship Fountain also. The route will begin on the Northbank near the Naval Museum at the Ford on Bay, go under the Main Street and Acosta Bridge, and then east along the Southbank.

As in the past, judging will be done in best theme, holiday spirit, and creative lighting in corporate, sailboat, vessels under 30, and vessels 30-and-over categories.

The evening will end around 8:00 pm with 15 minutes of fireworks including the traditional waterfall flowing off the Main Street and Acosta Bridge.

Captains of any shape and size motor-assisted vessel may sign up before Sunday, November 17th to have their crafts in the parade. There is no entry fee.

Proud owners of winning boats usually take pictures of their lit-up crafts to local Print shops to have duplicates made for their relatives and friends to display in their businesses.

Spectators can go downtown a bit early to get selfies with Santa from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Kid to Kid, and do a little shopping on Small Business Saturday.

This year's Jacksonville Light Boat Parade will float down the St. Johns River on November 30th beginning at 6:30 pm.
