When the holidays come around, Hollywood celebrates with a party for everyone, and this year is no exception.
Once again, the city is planning Christmas Near the Beach, which is held every year in the city's downtown. The first festival was held in 2007 as a small celebration, and has grown to the point where it is now hours long, has about 200 people helping to run it or participating in it, and thousands are coming to enjoy the fun.
The details are still being finalized, but based on past festivals, this year is likely to include a Christmas tree towering at least 40 feet, and covered with lights; a Christmas pageant; Santa Claus arriving in a sports car instead of a sleigh (no word on how Rudolph and the rest of the reindeer feel about being left out); the Grinch on roller blades; Zumba instructors leading a flash mob; and hip-hop dance and music. The Moody Radio station has given away goodies such as beach balls, T-Shirts, hats, and other Promotional Products.
Since local businesses support the day, the event is free for everyone. This year, Christmas Near the Beach will be held December 12, from 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm, at the Arts Park at Young Circle, which is a major traffic circle and landmark in downtown Hollywood.
