Parade to float into Hollywood

The annual Candy Cane Parade is coming to Hollywood for the 59th year this evening.

This is a special event for the city. Starting on Scott Street, the route follows the Hollywood Beach Broadwalk until it ends at Harrison Street. The parade is usually about an hour and a half long.

Peppermint Paradise is the theme for this year’s parade, and it will have about 70 entries in total, with 30 floats. There will be several marching bands, including ones from Chaminade-Madonna High School, Grace Academy, South Broward High School, Hollywood Hills High School, and McArthur High School. The parade would not be complete without a visit from Santa Claus and candy canes galore.

According to the program and events manager for Hollywood, Toni Bridges, the parade is an iconic event for Hollywood and helps to bring the community together. It is expected that around 30,000 people will attend it.

Bridges recommends that people park in the paid parking in garages in the downtown area and then take the free shuttle service to the parade so as to avoid all the traffic.

The parade is scheduled to take place tonight, starting at 7:00 pm. It is sponsored by the City of Hollywood’s Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts, and no doubt banner printing is in use throughout the city to make people aware of this annual event.
