JetBlue recently announced that it will begin flying between the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and the Caribbean island of Cuba, with limited flights by the end of this month and daily flights beginning in October and November.
According to the executive vice president commercial and planning for JetBlue, Marty St. George, the goal is to make travelling to Cuba affordable and easy so that visitors can enjoy a unique cultural experience for educational purposes, see family members, or find business opportunities. Visitors still need to complete an affidavit that they meet one of the approved reasons for travel issued by the United States Department of the Treasury.
There will be three routes from the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport to the Santa Clara– Abel Santamaría Airport, Holguín – Frank País Airport, and Camagüey – Ignacio Agramonte Airport.
The one-way fare will start at $99. The price includes health insurance required by the Cuban government, but there is an additional $50 fee that travelers can purchase at the time of check in. Each flight will have unlimited complimentary snacks and soft drinks and free wireless Internet.
