Chewy.com, an online retailer of pet products, is relocating a customer service facility from Dania Beach to Hollywood Plaza, located at Hollywood Boulevard and Park Road in Hollywood.
The company says it will bring 1,100 employees with it, some of whom will be hired in Hollywood. A definite date has not been given for the move, which is thought to be planned for October or November, 2017.
Roxsanne Tai, a spokeswoman for Chewy.com, said the company was excited to continue its growth in the region, and added more details would be provided nearer to the move. Its relocation will make Chewy.com Hollywood's biggest private employer, according to Josh Levy, Hollywood's mayor. Levy noted that job growth is vitally important to any city, and the 1,100 incoming employees, whether they relocate or are hired locally, will help the economy.
Chewy.com was started in 2011 in South Florida by entrepreneurs who met online. The company has grown rapidly thanks to its large stock of products, competitive pricing, and low shipping charges. It also provided personalized service to its customers, such as giving them portraits of their pets as a surprise.
The arrival of such a large operation will impact the community in a number of significant ways. Officials might consider working with a newsletter printing company to create an informational letter for residents, discussing the issues.
