JetBlue Airways recently announced it will be providing a once-daily nonstop service between the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and Quito, Ecuador, starting in early 2016.
Once the airline has received government approval for this service, flights will be available for purchase. JetBlue currently has close to 85 daily flights from Fort Lauderdale and plans to increase its operations to 100 daily flights by 2017.
According to the vice president of network planning for JetBlue, Dave Clark, the airline is proud to become a focus in Fort Lauderdale as a major gateway to the Caribbean and Latin America. He adds that due to extensive promotional efforts by the country, the demand for travel to Ecuador has increased. JetBlue will also most likely be turning to various brochure printers to promote this new service with colorful items.
JetBlue currently has flights to Bogota, Cartagena, and Medellin in Colombia, as well as Peruvian capital Lima, making Quito the airline’s fifth destination in South America. The Andes and its volcanic corridor, its close proximity to beaches and fishing towns along the Pacific coast, the Galapagos Islands, and the Amazon River make the city attractive to tourists.
Ecuador's minister of tourism, Sandra Naranjo, commented that the country’s primary market for tourism is the United States and, by having this route, it will increase the number of visitors from the U.S. to their country.
