Volunteers needed to build Hialeah playground
People who enjoy working outside have a chance to do so in Hialeah.
Volunteers from KaBOOM!, the City of Hialeah, Smile Generation, and Pacific Dental Services will join with members of the community to build a playground at Babcock Park. Volunteers of all levels of abilities and skills are welcome.
The work schedule is as follows: the first and second days will be devoted to prepping the site, and the third day is build day, with the ribbon cutting at the end of the construction.
Water, breakfast, and lunch will be provided, as will safety materials such as gloves, if the work requires protection. The build will go ahead no matter what the weather, so volunteers should be prepared to work outside in all conditions. Closed-toe shoes must be worn, and valuables should be left at home, as the site has no secure storage.
Volunteers are reminded they will be working in a construction zone, and safety is paramount. People are expected to work together, report any unsafe behavior, comply with any requests from staff members, follow all safety rules, use only power tools that are pre-approved, no drugs, alcohol, or firearms, and young people may not take part in active construction.
The event is scheduled to begin March 7, at 8.00 am and finish at 3.00 pm on March 9. The hours each day are from 8.00 am until 3.00 pm. Babcock Park is at 651 East 4 Avenue. Organizers of events like this typically work with flyer printing to create instruction sheets for volunteers.
