The City of Hialeah is inviting everyone to take part in an event to celebrate a special day for nature. The invitation is also extended by Hialeah’s mayor, Esteban Bovo, Jr., and Alex Rizo, Florida state representative.
The Arbor Day Tree Planting Event will be held at Sparks Park, located at 1301 West 60th Street. Volunteers will plant trees to beautify Sparks Park as well as the neighboring roadways and walkways. The park covers 9.5 acres with amenities that include two lighted tennis courts, a football/soccer field, a recreation center, two lighted racquetball courts, a children’s playground, two lighted baseball fields, two lighted basketball courts, and more.
Arbor Day started in Nebraska at the behest of J. Sterling Morton, a newspaper editor. He loved trees and was a strong advocate for the practice of civic groups and individuals planting them. Morton went on to become Secretary of the Nebraska Territory and continued to promote the idea of tree planting.
In 1872, at a meeting of the State Board of Agriculture and five years after Nebraska became a state, Morton proposed a day centered on planting trees. The measure was approved and April 10, 1872, was the first Arbor Day. More than one million trees were planted that date in Nebraska.
The tree planting is scheduled for April 18, from 10.00 am until 12.00 pm. When events like this are planned, organizers will often use flyer printing to create instruction sheets for event attendees.
