A sorority is planning to provide a look at an upcoming film and raise funds at the same time.
The Beta Tau Zeta Chapter of the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority has arranged for an exclusive showing of “The Color Purple” a week before the film opens in theaters. Organizers are asking attendees to please wear purple, and note that the best outfit will win a prize.
The film is a new adaptation of Alice Walker’s classic, Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name. The event is a fundraiser on behalf of the Stork’s Nest Closet, located at the Dorothy M. Wallace C.O.P.E. Center.
The Stork’s Nest teaches teen mothers how to be caring, responsible parents while at the same time, helping them continue working toward their academic and post-secondary educational goals. The Stork’s Nest ensures the teens meet the curriculum of the Miami-Dade County Schools. The facilities include playgrounds, a health science lab, a parenting lab, a complete medical clinic, and an early-childhood classroom.
The showing will take place December 17, from 2.30 pm until 5.00 pm, at the AMC Hialeah 12, at 780 West 49th Street. Patrons will check in and seating will start at 2.30, with the film beginning promptly at 3.00 pm. There are no reserved seats, and no previews will be shown, although the theater will be selling concessions. When a fundraiser like this is scheduled, the organization benefiting could use brochure printing to create pamphlets describing their operations.
