An upcoming training program in Hialeah will afford divers and support personnel a chance to learn the latest techniques in their field.
Dive Rescue 1 is a training program for certified divers and the personnel who support them from the surface. Those who complete the program successfully will have learned the basic skills and methods needed for a public safety diver to work effectively and successfully at an accident in the water. The program covers the entire structure of an incident, from evaluating the scene to the final debriefing.
Attendees will learn about the newest methods of underwater recovery and rescue, so they will be prepared to respond safely and effectively to water accidents.
The program will take place in a classroom, pool, and open water. These environments will allow students to learn new techniques before tackling scenarios in the field. The program includes two dives and a comprehensive test.
Important topics to be covered include drowning and public safety diver (PSD) fatalities, search patterns, team management and organization, victim retrieval, scene evaluation, in-water vehicle accidents, service to families, and National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) standards.
All students must be at least 18, complete a Recreational Scuba Training Council (RSTC) medical statement, be a member of a public safety agency, and have open water certification.
Dive Rescue 1 is scheduled for Monday, August 19 at 10.00 am to Wednesday, August 21 at 8.00 pm, at Hialeah Fire Station #7 at 7590 W 24th Ave. When events like this are planned, organizers can turn to Print shops to create course materials.
