What's Happening in Hialeah, FL…

Christmas fun aplenty in Hialeah

An upcoming event promises to be a lot of fun, while supporting a good cause at the same time.

A New Horizons Christmas Holiday Festival will take place in Amelia Earhart Park in Hialeah. Florida State Senator Rene Garcia is sponsoring the event, and is teaming up with Toys for Tots and New Horizons CMHC, to provide a big toy giveaway to children. The toys are free to children of ages from newborn to ten years.

In addition to the toy giveaway, there will be live music, bounce houses, slides, games, and a chance to have photos taken with Santa Claus himself. U.S. Marines will be on hand, as Toys for Tots is an initiative of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. The toy drive was created by Major Bill Hendricks, a reservist, in 1947. He was inspired by his wife, who wanted to give a toy to a youngster in need, but could not find an organization to help. Hendricks gathered a group of fellow reservists who collected 5,000 toys that year. Toys for Tots is now a recognized charity.

New Horizons CMHC is a mental health facility that states its mission is to provide residents of Miami-Dade County with complete behavioral health services without regard to socioeconomic status, disability, gender orientation, age, sex, creed, or race.

The Christmas Holiday Festival is set for Saturday, December 16, from 10:00 am until 3:00 pm. When events like this are planned, organizers can use banner printing to create seasonal decorations for the venue.
