Coral Springs celebrates MLK

The nation celebrates the life of Martin Luther King Jr. in mid-January, and Coral Springs will have three events honoring.

To start this 30th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration, there will be a MLK Award Reception and Student Art & Literary Exhibit on January 16 at Coral Springs Center for the Arts, 2855 Coral Springs Drive. From 5:30 pm until 6:30 pm an MLK Monument Award recipient will be named and exhibits of student art and literary will be on display.

On January 17, Motown Magic will pay tribute to MLK with an evening of soul hit songs at the Center. The six musicians and four vocalists will render hits from artists such as The Commodores, Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye, the Four Tops, and Lionel Richie. Everyone is invited to attend the after party. Motown Magic will be Friday, January 17, with the performance will begin at 7:00 pm and the after party will begin at 8:45 pm in the Center’s Courtyard. Tickets will be required for both events.

Soul music fans often wear their favorite groups’ merchandise displaying the group’s distinctive logo design.

On Monday, January 20, the Coral Springs MLK J. Committee will host Diversity & Leadership Day at the Northwest Regional Library starting at 8:30 am. This will be a program designed for high and middle schoolers. It will feature a motivational speaker and interactive activities teaching the students what Dr. King advocated.
