Cape Coral is on the lookout for "Women of Distinction"

Women who give back to their community have the chance to win a new award in Cape Coral. Nominations are now being accepted for the first annual ‘Women of Distinction’ awards.

The award is open to any women living in Lee County. According to Pati Smith, the recording secretary for the organization that is sponsoring the award:

"It is so important for us to recognize each other and empower each other and inspire each other."

Women who are eligible for nomination display a dedication to their community in their field of experience, show compassion, integrity and leadership, and are willing to work with a team. Women are invited to nominate themselves if they wish.

Organizations that give out awards can use printing services to let potential candidates know about the criteria, and to explain the rules for nominating someone.

In the case of the Women of Distinction award, the organization is looking for both obvious and non-obvious candidates. Giving an example, Smith described a woman who might bring her neighbors soup when they are ill. Many women throughout the county work hard to support and help others, but do not always get recognized for their efforts.

There are a number of categories for award nominees, such as First Responder, Health Care Professional, Charitable/Community Steward, Creative Artist, Entertainer, Volunteer, Elected Official, Business Woman, and High School or College Student.

The deadline for nominating a woman is February 23.
