Cape Coral gets ready to fly on Aviation Day

The Lee County Port Authority is aiming to increase awareness of the airports in the Cape Coral area.

To do that, it hosts an annual Aviation Day, which features a number of vintage airplanes, helicopter rides, and activities for children. The five vintage planes that will make an appearance at this year's Aviation Day include a Grumman TBM-3E Avenger, the DC-3 Flagship Detroit, a Douglas C-47 Skytrain, a Douglas SBD-5, and a North American B-25J Mitchell. The planes are provided by the Flagship Detroit Foundation and the Commemorative Air Force Dixie Wing, both of which used marketing services and press releases to announce their appearance at Aviation Day.

Another highlight of this year's event will be an appearance by Captain Barrington Irving. Capt. Irving was the first African-American to fly around the world on a solo flight. He was also one of the youngest people to ever do so.

Activities for children during the day will include a bounce house, face painting, and clowns. There will also be aviation-themed exhibitions and shopping opportunities for people of all ages.

Aviation Day is scheduled for November 7 from 10am until 3pm. It will take place at Page Field, on the north ramp by North Airport Road. Admission and parking are free, and a shuttle bus will be available to transport people from the parking area to the entrance.
