Rugged Maniacs run muddy obstacle course and party
Over 5,000 energetic runners and spectators will be heading to the Florida State Fairgrounds, 4800 US-301 Tampa, in late April to take part in this year’s annual Rugged Manic 5K Obstacle Race and Festival. The event has been touted as half festival and half mud run.
The festival will open at 8:30 am when the DJ takes to the main stage. That is also when the booths open and give away freebies such as promotional pens and other promotional products. Interactive games will be going on all day, including pie-eating, stein-hoisting, and dance-offs. The games and the festival will be free.
The five-kilometer Rugged Maniac 5K Obstacle Race will start at 9:00 am. Brandon runners will secure their timeslots when the purchase their tickets. Each wave will accommodate 200 runners. The first wave will be the “Elite Heat” and will include those participants who are serious about winning.
The course will have obstacles such as inflatables called Feed the Beast, an Accelerator 3.0 slide, an eight-foot slippery slope, Pole Position (pole climb), and Sled Dog (weight pull). There will also be an iron curtain (muddy water, drop offs and obstructed view). The Hell or High Water obstacle will have participants walking on floating “lily pads” while dodging swinging mats.
Along with bragging rights, runners will receive tech shirts sporting the event graphic design, participation medals, and free photos.
The Rugged Maniac will be April 18.
