Brandon prepares for walk/run fundraiser
Health-minded Brandon residents can help a popular nonprofit raise money when the city hosts a benefit to assist those with muscular dystrophy.
The Brandon Half Marathon and 5K has been announced for mid-January and is sponsored by the Brandon Running Association. All proceeds go to the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Organizers expect moderate temperatures for the event, which will course along the Brandon Parkway. Both races finish at Town Center.
Awards will be presented in both events for Top Male and Female Overall. Other awards include Masters (40+) and Grand Masters (50+) winners, as well as the Top 3 Male and Female in several age groups. Finisher awards will be given to everyone who completes their race. Participants will also receive free race photos and a long-sleeved commemorative race shirt. Lastly, free sandwiches, pizza, hot dogs, soda, and water will be provided to participants at no cost after the race. Banner printing or other graphic design products are often used to highlight community events.

Participants must register in advance at the official website. Registration fees before November 6 are $25 for the 5K and $55 for the half-marathon; after that date, costs will increase.
