Brandon train lovers invited to Tampa Train Day

For all Central Florida train lovers, volunteers of Friends of Tampa Union Station will be presenting their ninth annual Tampa Train Day this month.

Live music and food trucks will also add to the festivities. Admission will be free and the event will be family oriented.

Area model railroad clubs will be bringing their G, S, N and HO model train displays. Some clubs that will be participating will be the Suncoast Model Railroad Club, Four Guys and their Trains, Gulf Coast Garden Railroads, The H. B. Plant Railroad Historical Society, and Suncoast American Flyer Enthusiasts. The Greater Florida Lego Users Group will be presenting models made from colorful blocks of Lego.

Transportation and history exhibits will be presented by organizations such as the Florida Railroad Museum, Tampa-Hillsborough County Public Library, the Glazer Children’s Museum, Amtrak, Largo Central lRailway Operation Lifesaver, and the Robert W. Willaford Railroad Museum. The Florida Chapter of the Morse Telegraph Club will be loaning an operating telegraph to the event. Little Mack, the historic fire engine number 42, will be on loan from the Tampa Firefighters Museum.

Everyone will want to mark their calendars for Saturday, May 14. The event is scheduled to begin at 10:00 am and end at 4:00 pm at the Tampa Union Station 601 N. Nebraska Avenue (on the corner of Twiggs St and Nebraska Avenue) in downtown Tampa.
