Brandon to dive into watermelon and tacos
The region’s annual Watermelon and Taco festival will be coming in just over a week.
Everyone here in Brandon is invited to bring family, friends, and their pets for a day of edible fun. The event will be free.
Anthony Barcelo Entertainer, a DJ, will introduce a range of live performances. Some of those on stage will be Artie Fletcher Plus, Robbie Steinhardt, and Kansas and Stormbringer Band. A special homecoming show for Leo Gallagher will be part of the evening’s entertainment. Gallagher will be performing his famous watermelon smashing routine called the Full Sledge-O-Matic Show so be sure to bring raincoats, umbrellas and protective wear if you are planning to be in the first few rows. Fans will want to check with the Joke’s on You Comedy Tour to see if they can purchase any of Gallagher’s promotional products.
Many watermelon activities are being planned, including various contests. Pets will have their own pet tent, and water bowls will be available throughout the site. Air-cooled tents will also be available for families.
Some activities for the younger set will be a rock wall, face painting, bounce houses, and a shark tank.
Local restaurants will be vending their specialties, and a bar will be furnishing watermelon and jalapeno drinks.
The event will be Saturday, August 12 from 1:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Centro Asturiano de Tampa, 1913 N. Nebraska Ave., Tampa.
