Brandon looks forward to ukulele festival
Brandon ukulele aficionados will be saving the day for the upcoming Uke-Palooza.
The Tampa Bay Ukulele Society and the fairgrounds will present this one-day festival, which will be part of the Charles M. Davis Special Events series at the Florida State Fair.
Ukulele performances will include Jessica Rose and a Hawaiian show featuring Sounds of Aloha, Thy Olopai, and Noelani. Guests are invited to bring their ukes and jam. They can also hear The Tropical Sons and Tom Hood, Big Tiki and the Tais, James Hill, and JCT 27 in a performers showcase. James Hill will have a full concert at 8:00 pm and the The Barnkickers will be his opening act.
A beginner’s workshop will have 50 ukuleles available for those who do not bring their own, and the Safety Harbor Arts and Music Center will provide family art activities. Hui Na Aikane O Hawaii will display and discuss Hawaiian culture. A SPAM-A Lot Carving and a SPAM-OFF cooking contest for Amateur Chefs will bring attention to the almost meat. The American Hibiscus Society’s Sunset Chapter will be having its annual flower show.
The vendor area will have everything from Mikeys’ Aloha Shirts and Cool Art Uke displays, to a cigar box uke maker, Brett Holdon. Attendees at events such as this like to collect business cards from these people for possible future transactions.
Uka-Palooza will be Saturday, February 9 from 10:00 am until 7:00 pm at the Florida State Fairgrounds, 4800 U.S. 301 Tampa.
