Brandon foodies feed selves and homeless
The 9th Annual FORD International Cuban Sandwich Festival is set to open at the end of May.
Over 100 cultural exhibits including displays, dance, music, food, local food vendors selling their Cuban Sandwich specialties and business vendors passing out business cards and promotional products will fill Centennial Park.
SalsaAerobics’ Chris Maloof will emcee live performances such as Orchestra Fuego, Cukiara, SalsaBroso,Revelacion Salsera, and Extreme Dance School. Free Zumba classes will also be available.
Contests for this year’s Smackdown will include last year’s champions from South Korea- Tampa Sandwich Bar, and returning local favorites Las Palmas, Smoke House BBQ, Tampa Sammich and Pipos Cuban Café.
Kids will also have their own Cuban Sandwich Showdown.
One activity will be an attempt to build the world’s largest Cuban sandwich. The present record is held by Kissimmee and this year’s goal will be 190 feet. Once the record has been set, the sandwich will be sliced into individual pieces and given to a local homeless shelter. Over 450 homeless people are expected to be fed.
Other activities will include domino tournaments.
General admission tickets are free, VIP area adult tickets start at $75 and VIP Gold judge’s tickets are $150. Kids VIP tickets will be $50.
