Brandon anticipates birding festival
Hillsborough Community College - Brandon will be hosting this year’s Florida Birding and Nature Festival in a few weeks. This will be four days of expert seminars, boat and field trips, a turtle symposium, speakers, and a nature expo.
The event will open at 5:00 pm with a social hour and the keynote speaker will be Dr. Mark Madison a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service National Historian.
The next day, Friday, will begin at 7:00 am with the first field trips. These will be two auto trips, three boat trips, a van tour thorough Polk County Se7en Wetlands, and a canoe trip on the Hillsborough River.
Six seminars are scheduled for each day. Some topics on the first day will be foxes, bobcats, coyotes, warblers, herons, and egrets. Attendees at seminars such as these often ask the speakers for business cards so they can contact them later to book future talks.
The Nature expo will open on Friday and Saturday from 9:00 am until 4:00 pm.
Saturday’s line up will also have field trips, the expo, seminars and a dinner buffet with Kenn Kaufman of Kaufman Field Guides as the keynote speaker. A one-day Turtle Symposium composed of seven seminars will take place from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm.
Sunday will begin at 8:00 am when that day's field trips begin.
The Florida Birding and Nature Festival will be at the Brandon Campus, 10451 Nancy Watkins Drive from October 17 to 20.
