New scholarship program comes from nonprofit partnership

Two major nonprofit organizations in Manatee County, Take Stock in Children and the Goodwill Manasota in Bradenton, Florida, have teamed up to put together a scholarship and mentoring program that will help children of veterans.

This program, which will be monitored by both groups, will interview those who might qualify for scholarships, raise money for those scholarships, and provide mentoring and coaching services so that individuals can better succeed once they enter the college environment. Many of these services are already offered by Take Stock in Children but are now being extended to children of veterans rather than children from low-income families only.

The director of the Veterans Services Program at Goodwill Manasota, C.J. Bannister, said about thepartnership and the impact it will have:

"Education is one of the most powerful tools in making a better life and achieving financial stability… Through our partnership with Take Stock in Children, we can now help the children of these servicemen and women while honoring the great sacrifices they've made to our nation."
