Meals on Wheels PLUS of Manatee, headquartered in Bradenton, will receive the proceeds from Tropical Nights Under Paris Lights, a gala dinner and auction. This year marks the 31st annual themed event, with last year’s well-dressed pirates and sponsors raising almost $300,000 for the worthy cause.
Meals on Wheels originated in 1972 to provide nutritious meals for the region’s homebound elderly and disabled, but it grew to be much more, so “PLUS” was added to its name. Many other care services are now offered, including an adult day center, friendship dining centers, and support for the local food pantries. Additional programs such as homemakers’ services, medical equipment supplies, and in-home respite are also provided.
Community home-delivered meals continue to be the organization’s primary purpose, having reached a total of 11 million delivered meals in 2020.
The gala fundraiser includes both a silent and a live auction with a large array of items provided by hundreds of supporters and sponsors. The silent auction begins online the day before the event, allowing those who will not be attending to support the charity.
Businesses who donate to auctions often use local Print shops to provide Letterheads that describe their item or service.
Tropical Nights Under Paris Lights will be held on Saturday, March 1st at the Grove Ballroom in Lakewood Ranch near Bradenton.
