In order to achieve this scale or recycling, the company relies on donations of used items from the local community to resell in its stores. The company also teams up with local organizations and companies such as Thrift Books, Junk King Sarasota, and Electronic Recycling Center in order to increase the amount of donations that they receive and reduce the amount of electronic waste and other harmful waste that is often thrown away, which can include anything from flat-screen televisions to Stationery printers. The company managed to surpass its previous record of 40 million pounds that they prevented from reaching landfills in 2016.
The president and CEO of Goodwill Manasota, Bob Rosinsky, said in a statement regarding the store’s achievement:
“Our salvage partnerships have been forged in order to enhance our positive environmental impact; we are proud to work with organizations that have the same desire to operate in a more environmentally-friendly manner. The environmental and financial impacts serve to strengthen our respective organizations as well as our community."
