First half marathon comes to Manatee County

The inaugural Bradenton Area Half Marathon will be hosted by the Hernando de Soto Historical Society next month.

The course will start at Bradenton Town Hall and wind its ways though the many iconic sites of the County, including historic Palmetto, the Green Bridge, the Riverview Boulevard, and other parts of downtown Bradenton. To motivate runners during the Half Marathon, there will be mascots, bands, and cheerleaders.

In conjunction with the Half Marathon, the Conquistador 1-Mile Fun Run will also be held. The course will follow the Bradenton Riverwalk and end at the Farmers’ Market, as does the half marathon.

A medal that can be mounted on a plaque will be given to those who finish the races. Access to the Beer Garden will be given to those who finish the Half Marathon (provided they are aged 21 or over), and a helmet will be the prize for those who finish the Fun Run.

The Conquistador Historical Foundation, which is the branch of the Hernando de Soto Historical Society that raises funds for student scholarships and local charitable organizations, will receive the proceeds from the events. The Historical Society might consider using Flyers to promote these races and the causes they support.

The two races will be held on Saturday, October 15. The Half Marathon will begin at 6:30 am, followed by the Fun Run at 7:45 am.
