Energy facility to bring new light in Bradenton

Construction on a Solar Energy Center in Parrish, just a short distance from Bradenton in Manatee County, is expected to begin this month, according to Florida Power and Light.

The Manatee Solar Energy Center will be located on 762 acres of land owned by Florida Power and Light, and will be next to the Manatee Power Plant. It will a large-scale solar facility able to produce 74.5 megawatts of energy.

Rae Dowling of the power company added that all the permits have been obtained and some movement of the dirt has already taken place. Sophia Eccleston, also from the power company, said that a groundbreaking ceremony is planned for February 11.

Eccleston commented that the construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2016. Those in the community who live in the neighboring areas will be kept informed of the progress of the facility on a regular basis. Florida Power and Light may look to a local Print company to Print Flyers and other informational materials that will help with this effort.

Eccleston said that Florida Power and Light plans to be able to generate 335 megawatts of solar power at its facilities throughout the state, which is three times its current capacity. She believes this will be a great accomplishment for both the state and the company.
