A total of 163 infant sweater sets and 73 blankets that had been hand made by the Crafting Interest Group in Sarasota, a short distance from Bradenton, has been delivered to the Florida Center for Early Childhood.
The group meets every Tuesday evening and purchases its supplies from yard sales and crafts stores. According to Judy Durnye, a facilitator, instructor and crocheter, the group decided early on that it did not want to knit and crochet just for themselves, but to do so as a way to give back to the community. It felt that the Florida Center for Early Childhood would be a worthy cause, as the items the group makes can be enjoyed by the babies served by the organization.
Vice president of Healthy Families Services at The Florida Center for Early Childhood, Debbie Keyso, said that her organization is grateful for and appreciative of the donation of these items. She understands the amount of time that goes into making these items and is happy that she can share them with the families served by the center.
The group may be using local Print companies to Print Flyers and mailers that can be sent out to those in the community encouraging people of all ages and skill levels, inviting them to participate in the weekly sessions to knit and crochet and socialize while helping a worthy cause.
