Big catch for Bradenton charities

The successful Fire Charity Fishing Tournament and Festival returns to Rossi Park this June.

This year marks the 17th edition of the tournament, which has raised over $250,000 for fire charities since 2006. Firefighters scholarships, children's burn camps, first responders and others have been supported by the tournament’s organizers, sponsors, and fishers.

The tournament includes a range of fishing categories forboth beginners and seasoned anglers. There are competitions for inshore, offshore, nearshore, and spearfishing participants. The derby also features a junior division for fishers under 18, and a paddle category for kayak and SUP fishing.

Part of the charity funds raised over the weekend will come from the proceeds of a boat raffle. The winner will receive a new Stumpnocker Skiff Tiller, boat motor, accessories, and trailer. Sponsors and the lead Fire Charity Fishing Foundation could use the services of an area printer for Logo Design and brochure printing to promote the tournament.

The weekend kicks off with two captain's meetings on Friday, as well as late registrations. The fishing begins with a 7:30 am shotgun start on Saturday. Weigh-ins will take place both Saturday and Sunday in the park where marine vendors will be set up.

Outdoor awards ceremonies will be held both evenings, with first to third place cash prizes presented. There is also a $250 prize and trophy for the top fishing team that includes an active first responder.

Further event information, including rules and regulations, is available on the tournament website. The tournament will take place at Rossi Park in Bradenton from June 7-9, 2024.
