Washington welcomes return of Oyster Wars

Shellfish fans know that each “pond” can produce oysters with their own unique taste, and a well-loved Washington festival will put them front and center.

The annual Oyster Wars celebration is set to be hosted by The Salt Line, and it takes its name from the skirmishes that used to take place over the oyster beds off the east coast. The festivities will include music, craft beer and lots of shellfish, and the ticket price includes an assortment of tastings. Both general admission and VIP passes are on offer.

The oysters will be coming from farms from Virginia, Maine, Rhode Island and Maryland, and everyone can treat themselves to their choice of beer from the cash bar. The VIP pass holders will be treated to early entry as well as a welcome cocktail, and no matter which type of ticket is chosen, the fun will keep on going until taps run dry. The afternoon and evening tastings will include live music. The festivities are for those age 21 and up and will be held rain or shine.

The charity of choice for the day will be the Oyster Recovery Partnership, which is working to help restore Chesapeake Bay’s shellfish beds. A brochure printing company can be tasked with preparing programs for an activity that provides details about the cause being supported.

The Salt Line will be offering this “shucking good time” on October 11th. It will begin at 2:00 pm.
