Runners to warm up for annual charity event

Fairfield locals will need to start getting in shape for this year’s CancerCare Walk/Run for Hope, which is a benefit to help fund CancerCare Services.

CancerCareServices is a nonprofit group that strives to provide professional services to people who have been diagnosed with any form of cancer. The local organization needs donations to continue its operations, and one way it raises funds is by hosting this annual event.

People who wish to run in the event can sign up either as individuals or part of a team on the group’s website. Others who may want to support the effort but not run can visit and give their backing to the participants. Some may want to have banner printing done to recognize loved ones fighting the disease, or as a means for groups or families to support runners and walkers.

The Run/Walk will take place Sunday, October 4 at Jennings Beach, 880 South Benson Road, Fairfield. Registration will begin at 7:45 am, followed by an opening ceremony. The Walk/Run will start at 9:00 am, and the Children’s Fun Run will begin at 10:15 am. There will be an awards ceremony afterwards for top fundraisers.

The participation fee will be $35 for those who sign up early and $40 thereafter, or $20 and $10 for children under 12. A course map can also be downloaded from the group’s website.
